We are a mutual aid group providing free high-quality masks (N95/KN95), rapid tests, and information related to COVID-19. “Learning to live with COVID” means taking care of each other. We keep each other safe(r) by utilizing all the resources available to us.In addition to Covid, wearing high-filtration, well-fitting masks protects us from knowingly, or unknowingly, contracting and spreading airborne illnesses. High-quality masks can also help with allergies, asthma, particulate pollution, wildfire smoke, occupational hazards, dust, etc.

Although policy makers, employers, & celebrities want us to pretend otherwise, COVID-19 (aka SARS-CoV-2) is still causing serious harm to people all over the world including, those in our local community. We, the public, have been encouraged to normalize sickness in a country without: free & equitable healthcare, treatment for Long Covid, guaranteed paid sick leave, or adequate support when we become disabled.
So, this group is joining the many other Mask Blocs around the world who are practicing community care through mutual aid.Governments and institutions are abandoning policies capable of protecting us from repeat COVID infections, not because of scientific evidence, but because they value profits more than people. Misleading phrases like “vax & relax” are circulating despite vaccine effectiveness (or how well the vaccine prevents symptomatic infection) beginning to drop only months after receiving a dose and with less than 30% of the population up to date on the vaccine. COVID sits in the air like smoke and is more likely to disable and/or kill those who are already disabled, immunocompromised, poor, Black, Indigenous, a Person of Color, trans, queer, and/or elderly.The scientific evidence gathered over the past 5 years of the pandemic, and counting, informs us to protect ourselves and others from being repeatedly infected with a multi-system disease that can cause long-term health issues like Long Covid even when initial symptoms are mild or the infected person is asymptomatic.Mask Bloc Louisville understands that taking precautions like wearing a mask, testing regularly, and filtering or ventilating the air, are ways of being in solidarity with one another. Since these protective tools are not being provided to us, we formed this mask bloc in an effort to prevent members of our community from further disability, isolation or death.Society can attempt to "get back to normal" but we will never consent to eugenics. When we participate in care practices, we create safe(r) spaces for all of us.
